An expansion board that plugs into a computer to give it display capabilities. The display capabilities of a computer, however, depend on both the logical circuitry (provided in the video adapter) and the monitor.
Accelerated Graphics Port, (AGP) is a new interface specification developed by Intel. The AGP channel is 32 bits wide and runs at 66MHz. This translates into a total bandwidth of 266Mbps, as opposed to the PCI bandwidth of 133MBps. In addition, AGP allows 3-D textures to be stored in main memory rather than video memory. This means that high-resolution graphics and streaming video can be displayed more quickly and with greater precision than is possible with older video cards.
